THE DAY THE SUN FELL

by Aya Domenig

synopsis

On the trail of her deceased grandfather, who was working as a young doctor in the Hiroshima hospital on the day the nuclear bomb was dropped in 1945, the film director encounters a former doctor and a nurse who made a similar experience. Her grandfather never discussed his experience during his lifetime, but the straightforwardness of her protagonists brings her closer to him. When, on 11 March 2011, there is another nuclear disaster, this time in Fukushima, her search takes a new turn.
