OLGA

by Miroslav Janek

synopsis

In July 2013, Olga Havlová would have celebrated her 80th birthday. In this piece filmmaker Miroslav Janek, who several years ago completed Pavel Koutecký's unfinished documentary Citizen Havel, remembers the exceptional personality of the woman who stood at the side of President Václav Havel since the beginning. The film presents a wealth of previously unknown footage, photos and stories. Olga is depicted here as a sharp observer, principled dissident, generous host and down-to-earth woman who despises pomp but loves gentle humour and always says what she thinks. Her friends confirm that even as the first lady of the Czech Republic, her approach to life did not change and she stood firmly with both feet on the ground.
