THE FALKLANDS PLAY

by Michael Samuels

synopsis

More than 20 years ago, in April 1982, Britain went to war with Argentina to regain the Falkland Islands. The Thatcher government handled the biggest crisis in British foreign affairs since Suez. Argentina, then a British ally, invaded the Falklands, which was sovereign British territory since 1833, to divert attention from its troubled economy, unemployment and increasing popular unrest.
