VELMA

by Piero Tomaselli

synopsis

The “Capitano” is an autistic, disreputable, quick-tempered, chain-smoking fisherman who lives alone in his hut near the Marano lagoon. A few years ago he decided to live as a recluse and now leads a ritualised life apart from civilisation. One day he discovers on the beach a young girl who obviously just barely escaped death. Because the girl does not speak and is apparently suffering from amnesia, he decides to offer her shelter in his home.
