CHANNEL OF LOVE

by Costas Dandinakis

synopsis

Christos, a young and solitary mathematician who gives private lessons to earn a living, is getting ready for a Christmas trip to Paris with a friend. But his friend cancels the trip and Christos, who hates traveling alone, remains in Athens. He gets to know an elderly neighbor, who lives in the basement of Christos’s apartment building with his dog and adores Cavafy. The loneliness of the holiday season brings the men closer together and they become friends. Christos goes to Crete to spend New Year’s Eve with his family, but he grows bored there and returns to Athens. Then, a female friend urges him to visit a special place called Canal d’amour (the channel of love), on the island of Corfu. Legend has it that whoever swims there is bound to meet the love of his life. But Christos is not a winter swimmer...
