JOUEUSE

by Caroline Bottaro

synopsis

In a small village of Corsica, Hélène leads a dull life, every day resembles the previous one ... She works as a maid in a hotel and seems happy with her husband, Angel, and her fifteen-year-old daughter, Lisa. Her modest and monotonous life seems predetermined... Everything changes when, cleaning one of the hotel rooms, she notices an attractive young American couple playing chess on one of the terraces. Captivated at first, then completely fascinated by chess, Hélène will do everything to excell at this game. She can count on Mister Kröger's help, a mysterious inhabitant of the village, to achieve her goal. This new passion provokes a wind of freedom in her life and will profoundly change her relations with her family, her friends and even the whole village.
