Today marks the start of the Festival of New Swedish Cinema being held in Rome. The event opens with a screening of the domestic box office hit Evil, by Mikael Håfström, which also won the Fipresci Prize at the last edition of the Viareggio Festival. There will be 8 feature length films on the programme for the event in the Italian capital, along with 7 short films, all chosen from the list of successful Swedish films in 2003.
The patron of the cinema review is the Swedish Cultural Institute and the Swedish Film Institute, and it is being put on in with the Swedish Embassy in Italy and the National Film School-Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. The initiative is part of the general cultural review called "Let’s Discover Sweden!".
All the films will be presented in their original language with Italian subtitles, apart from Kops, which will be shown in an Italian version.
