Giuliano Urbani, Italy's Minister for Culture from 2001 to 2005 presents together with Viviane Reding EU Commissioner for Cultural Affairs, the results of the meeting about the circulation of European films in Europe, during the press conference within the 60th Venice Film Festival.
“The circulation of European films within the European Union: support mechanisms and new technology" was in fact the title of the four-day meeting of the 25 EU ministers for culture, that took place during the Venice Film Festival in 2003.
The main issue on the agenda was finding new strategies to increase and improve the distribution of European films within the Continent. As the minister says, one every three films were released outside of its country of origin. Although the positive moment for European cinema, in terms of creativity and vivacity of the productions, the Minister reported the need to support the distribution of films, "improving and facilitating a system of co-operation and by creating networks".
