French international sales agent Pyramide International (headed up by Eric Lagesse) will be rocking up at the European Film Market of the 68th Berlin Film Festival (15-25 February) brandishing a copious line-up of 16 titles. Agathe Valentin’s team will be pinning its hopes particularly on five movies getting market screenings, and on seven features in post-production, including Donbass [+leggi anche:

 by Etienne Kallos (a Greek-South African filmmaker selected in the Cinéfondation competition at Cannes in 2006 with Doorman and the winner of the Golden Lion for Best Short Film at Venice in 2009 with Firstborn). The latter film, which revolves around a teenager whose Christian fundamentalist parents bring back a mysterious and manipulative orphan to their farm, was produced by Paris-based outfit Cinéma Defacto together with South Africa’s Spier Films, Poland’s Lava Films and Greece’s Heretic.

The feature debut by the filmmaker (a La Fémis graduate based in Paris and Israel) unfolds in a small town on the north coast of Israel, where everything seems to be on hold, at a standstill. Rebellious teenager Lana has vowed to fight back against this lack of activity and resignation. But she has no idea that the distant sound of a mermaid is what will awaken her town from its slumber and finally allow it to live… Produced by Paris-based company Avenue B Productions, the movie is being co-produced by Belgium’s Frakas Productions, and Israel’s Artza Productions and United King.
