Intended to single out a young independent production company, the 14th IFCIC Award, for 2017, which is handed out by the Institute for the Funding of Cinema and Cultural Industries, has gone to Maneki Films, an outfit founded and managed by Didar Domehri.

After working as a sales director at Films Distribution from 2001-2009, Domehri made the leap to production by founding the Paris-based outfit Maneki Films and the Full House label. Now with around ten features to her credit, she has staged such titles as Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story) [+leggi anche:

 by Santiago Mitre (revealed in Un Certain Regard at Cannes and set to be distributed in France by Memento Films from 3 January), besides features helmed by such names as Laurent CantetPablo Trapero and Wang Xiaoshuai. As previously reported, Didar Domehri was also named one of European Film Promotion’s Producers on the Move this year.

Maneki Films is the latest in a string of winners of the IFCIC Award, including the likes of TS Productions (2004), Les Productions du Trésor (2005), Elia Films (2006), La Mouche du Coche (2007), les Films du Poisson (2008), 2.4.7. Films (2009), The Film (2010), Origami Films (2011), Lionceau Films (2012), Dharamsala (2013), Lilies Films (2014), CG Cinéma (2015) and Les Films du Bélier.

The IFCIC is an establishment tasked with contributing to the development of the cultural industries by facilitating access to bank financing for businesses in the sector. Thanks to funding granted by the public authorities, the IFCIC guarantees bank loans granted to the producers of film or audiovisual works, technical industries and theatrical exhibitors. As of the end of December 2016, the sum of loans granted or guaranteed stood at over €1 billion.
