ficha de la película], directed by Elina Psykou and produced by Giorgos Karnavas and Konstantinos Kontovrakis (Heretic), has been awarded Best Film at the ninth Greek Iris Awards. The drama received a total of five Irises at the ceremony organised by the Hellenic Film Academy, which was held on 23 April at the Onassis Cultural Center, and was hosted by actors Makis Papadimitriou and Giorgos Pyrpasopoulos.

Son of Sofia was nominated for 13 Iris Awards in total, also cashing in on Best Director and Best Screenplay, both for Elina Psykou, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role, for Thanassis Papageorgiou. The fifth Iris for Son of Sofia was for Best Production Design and was handed to Penelope Valti.

The second big winner of the night was Dora Masklavanou for her third feature, Polyxeni [+lee también:

ficha de la película], which had its premiere at the last Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The film was nominated for 11 Iris Awards and received those for Best Actresses (both in leading and supporting roles), for Katia Goulioni and Lidia Fotopoulou, respectively, Best Cinematography for Claudio Bolivar and Best Original Score for experienced composer Nikos Kypourgos.

The period drama The Last Note [+lee también:

ficha de la película] by seasoned director Pantelis Voulgaris also left the ceremony with four awards out of its 12 nominations. Andreas Konstantinou received the Best Actor in a Leading Role Iris, while the rest of the awards were raked in in the technical categories, including Best Costumes, Best Sound and Best Make-up. ficha de la película] by debutant director Dimitris Tsilifonis received the Irises for Best Editing and Best Special Effects.

Lefteris Charitos was awarded with the Iris for Best First-time Director for his documentary Dolphin Man [+lee también:

ficha de la película], which also scooped the Best Documentary Iris. The multi-award-winning and well-travelled short film Copa-Loca by Christos Massalas continued its hot streak, snagging Best Short Film. Finally, the Honorary Iris Award was bestowed upon acclaimed French-Greek composer Alexandre Desplat.
