After the dark, medieval atmosphere of Perfume, Tykwer has chosen an ultra-modern setting for the contemporary plot of The International. The film centres on an investigation by an Interpol agent (played by Clive Owen) and a magistrate (Naomi Watts) into the illegal activities of one of the world’s most powerful banks.

Owen and Watts are not the only big names in the cast: they star alongside Armin Mueller-Stahl (Eastern Promises [+see also:

), Brian F. O’Byrne (Million Dollar Baby) and Danish actor Ulrich Thomsen (Brothers [+see also:

, The Celebration).

The film shoot was as international as the production and cast list, for it took place in the Babelsberg Studios, as well as Berlin, New York, Istanbul and Milan.

Sony Pictures Releasing will launch the film on German screens on February 12, 2009 and it will be released in the US by Columbia Pictures the following day.
