New call for projects for ACM Distribution

New call for projects for ACM Distribution

Founded in 2015 in order to support and promote the distribution and circulation of international co-productions, the ACM Distribution component, managed by the CNC with support from the MEDIA programme – Creative Europe, has just launched its fifth call for applications. Originally intended for films that have been lucky enough to benefit from the CNC’s World Cinema Support, it is now open to all works co-produced with a non-European country.

To be eligible, the film or batch of features (up to a maximum of four) must have at least one co-producer based in a MEDIA member country and another in a territory outside of MEDIA or Eurimages. The co-production share of the co-producer(s) established in the MEDIA countries must be somewhere between 25% and 70% for fiction and animated features (and between 20% and 70% for documentaries).

Companies wishing to apply must present a strategy for distribution in at least three countries (at least one of which must be in the MEDIA area, excluding France, and another in a country that is not a member of the MEDIA zone), and suggest one or more exhibition methods (theatres, festivals, TV, VoD and so on) for each movie, including one online method in at least one country. We should stress that innovative approaches are particularly encouraged, such as simultaneous VoD release and festival distribution, multiple circulation across several territories, straight to VoD, online festivals, digital-based promotion and so on. Particular attention will be paid to debut and sophomore features, as well as films that received World Cinema Support at the production stage.

The amount of support is capped at €60,000 per project and €15,000 per distribution territory. It cannot exceed 50% of the total sum of the distribution expenses. Nevertheless, this percentage may rise to 80% for debut and sophomore features, films co-produced with countries with a more fragile film industry, or if the final production budget is under or equal to €1.25 million.

Lastly, we should note that ACM Distribution support cannot be combined (for the same work in the same distribution territory) with a similar form of distribution support from another MEDIA-backed co-production fund (TorinoFilmLab Distribution, IDFA), and it cannot cover costs already covered by another form of support from the MEDIA sub-programme (support to sales agents, distribution support, whether automatic or selective, and online distribution support).

The deadline for the submission of application forms is 28 February 2018. A detailed description of ACM Distribution and the application form itself can be found on the CNC’s website – click here.

Four selection committees have been organised to date, in 2016 and 2017, during which 24 films were granted distribution support in over 100 new territories (ie, the number of releases). The selected films display impressive geographical diversity, as 41 are located outside the MEDIA zone – particularly in North and South America, but also in Asia and North Africa.
