The lead character in the film, written by Alessandro Aronadio, Valerio Cilio, Edoardo Leo and Renato Sannio, is Massimo Alberti (played by Leo), who owns “Miracolo Italiano” (“Italian Miracle”), a bed and breakfast that used to be the height of luxury but has now been reduced to a run-down apartment block. The crisis that has brought businesses to their knees seems not to have affected their neighbours opposite, a convent run by nuns that is always full of tourists and whose charitable and devout sisters offer a safe haven in exchange for a voluntary, strictly tax-free, donation. And herein lies the inspiration that Massimo has been seeking: if he is to survive, he must transform the “Miracolo Italiano” into a place of worship. But in order to do so, he must first found his own religion. And so he creates “Ionismo”, the first faith that places “I”, instead of God, at the centre of the universe. Accompanying Massimo on his mission to be absolved of taxes and duties are Sister Adriana (Buy), a narrow-minded accountant, and Marco (Battiston), an author with zero readers, who is the perfect ideologist for a new creed.

The Italian theatrical release of Io c'è is scheduled for 29 March 2018 with Vision Distribution.
