“A smart, outrageous and bizarre dark comedy, which makes no bones about political correctness. A genre film, but with a splash of vitriol.” This is how Ugly Nasty People [+see also:

). The cast also includes such names as Simoncino MartucciNarcisse Mame and Giorgio Colangeli. The screenplay, written by Luca Infascelli and Cosimo Gomez, revolves around a ragtag gang of unlikely robbers: Il Papero (who has no legs), his beautiful wife, Ballerina (who has no arms), Il Merda (a drug-addled Rasta) and Plissé (a rapping dwarf). After having carried off the heist of a lifetime, they each seem to have a plan of their own in order to hang onto the loot. From that moment on, an onslaught of chases, vendettas and murders ensues, in which everyone mercilessly stabs everyone else in the back.

“The theme at the beating heart of Ugly Nasty People is equality,” states the director. “The entire film unfolds according to the ‘rule’ that each and every human being can be cynical and ruthless, regardless of appearances. Ugly Nasty People is an action-comedy that breaks the mould, where a group of ill-fated buffoons and villains, who are highly skilled and unscrupulous, pulls off an ingenious armed robbery. But that's not all: we will see them have sex, insult and be insulted, kill and be killed, in a whole swirling whirlwind of events.” But, adds Gomez, “It’s not a realistic film; it’s a film that treads a fine line between truth and plausibility, and aims to possess both a lyrical and an amusing dimension at the same time.”

Ugly Nasty People is an Italian-French co-production. The movie was produced by Casanova Multimedia together with Rai Cinema, and co-produced by Mille et Une ProductionsTchin Tchin Production, Reborn Production, Voo and Be Tv, with contributions from Eurimages and the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, and with support from such sources as the Lazio region and the CNC’s support for new production technologies. 01 Distribution will be in charge of distributing it in theatres from 19 October.
