“Erik Bäckström is very close to my heart – he is a complex police officer, with a tendency to end up in conflicts with himself and his colleagues within the force, even if friendships and family ties are threatened. I am really looking forward to playing him again – it will be like meeting an old friend,” Lassgård explained.

Scripted by Swedish screenwriters Björn Carlström (The HuntersFalse Trail) and Stefan Thunberg (False TrailAgent Hamilton: In the Interest of the Nation [+see also:

), the story starts – just like in the two features – when Bäckström is called back from Stockholm to his native Norrland in northern Sweden to investigate a series of crimes. A longing for better times has led a small community in the wild and beautiful natural surroundings of the north into corruption and deceit, and while lifting the lid on murder and betrayal, the righteous, troubled and relentless detective finds himself on a collision course with both the law and family members.

The Hunters will be helmed by award-winning Swedish director Jens Jonsson (Easy Money III: Life Deluxe) and produced by SF Studios’ Per Janérus and Carlström, in collaboration with C More/TV4 and Swedish regional film centre Filmpool Nord. It will be launched next year.

“This series will further strengthen our position as a leading producer of high-end television drama, which is now in an expansive and exciting stage,” said Johan Hedman, head of SF Studios TV and Web Production, which is also working on the six-part drama series Alex with Nevision, starring Swedish actor Dragomir Mrsic, and the ten-part thriller series The Lawyer, with Alexander Karim in the lead, for MTG’s Viaplay.
