The Visegrad Film Forum becomes a meeting ground for future filmmakers

The Visegrad Film Forum (VFF), the Slovakian educational and networking platform, will discuss television production during its upcoming sixth edition. Last year’s theme of literacy and audience development (read the news) is being succeeded by small-screen episodic production, as “traditional formats have begun to fade away as a consequence of modern forms of distribution,” managing director Jakub Viktorín told Cineuropa. “That’s why it will be possible to meet the production designer from the series The Young Pope, the producers and the scriptwriter who debuted with the project Burning Bush [+see also:

 and continued with Wasteland (read the news), and HBO’s executive producer for Central Europe, Steve Matthews, the person behind several successful original series in this region.” In addition, the VFF has invited MIDPOINT to get involved in exploring the possibilities of television formats in the current digital era.

Besides Italian production designer and art director Ludovica Ferrario, Steve Matthews and nutprodukce team Pavla Janoušková KubečkováTomáš Hrubý and Štěpán Hulík, the VFF will welcome veteran make-up artist and special-effects creator Colin Arthur, who worked with the revered Ray Harryhausen on Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger and Clash of the Titans, with Stanley Kubrick on 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as on The NeverEnding Story. He now runs the company Dream Factory Spain, which specialises in film make-up, set decoration and SFX. The eminent director of Austerlitz [+see also:

Sergei Loznitsa, honed his craft on short and feature-length documentaries and fiction films, and he will talk about his observational brand of cinema in the VFF’s spotlight on documentary filmmaking. Meanwhile, Austrian filmmaker Anja Salomonowitz will offer her two cents on documentary and fiction, and English writer-director Peter Strickland will talk about cinephilia. 

As usual, the VFF will become a meeting ground for aspiring filmmakers from the Visegrad region. Student offerings from the Czech Film Academy of Miroslav Ondříček in Písek, the Polish University of Silesia in Katowice, the Hungarian Eszterházy Károly University in Eger and the Slovakian Faculty of Film and Television VŠMU will be introduced, and future filmmakers will have a chance to discuss and network. “We have accredited visitors from 15 countries, averaging between 300 and 400 from each,” concludes the managing director.

The sixth edition of the Visegrad Film Forum runs from 25-29 April in Bratislava, Slovakia.
