. Tilman has previously directed the feature-length documentary Black Heart White Men and has just completed the docu-ficition Le Dernier Gaulois, broadcast on France 2. His short film, A Sleepless Night, received the 2011 Magritte Award for Best Short Film.

In The Benefit of The Doubt, Fabrizio Rongione plays David, the young father of a large family: his wife, whom he loves, two adorable young children, and a tight-knit group of friends, with whom they go on communal holidays. But, upon returning from their latest sojourn in the Vosges, David is stopped by the police and questioned about a murder. The investigation quickly reveals that, in spite of its flawless appearance, David's life is not as perfect as he makes it seem. And while Noël, his best friend, and Marco, his lawyer, support him unquestioningly, doubt starts to spread and factions form. Slowly but surely, loyalties begin to fray, and everyone is left wondering: is David really innocent?
