30/09/2016 - Until 16 October, the best of global cinema and new US talents will come together at the 54th New York Film Festival, where European film has a strong presence

After a tremendous array of summer productions and with all eyes already on the 2017 Oscars, today the New York Film Festival begins to fill the vast US city with the best of global cinema and to give a voice to new national talents, with a varied, original and high-quality selection that is sure to delight the attendees.

Run by the Film Society of the Lincoln Center, the 54th edition of the gathering, founded in 1963, gets under way with an excellent programme of features, shorts, documentaries, commemorative screenings, debates, talks, exhibitions, virtual-reality experiences and politically orientated special events, besides myriad other activities. 

European cinema plays a decisive role in the festival, taking part in almost every section of it. On the main line-up, we find 14 European titles out of a total of 25: the French-German co-production Elle [+see also:

European cinema is just as well represented amongst the short and documentary screenings at the festival, while in the “Retrospective” section, a series of classic French films will be showcased, alongside a screening of Bertrand Tavernier’s My Journey Through French Cinema.
