Following nine days of festivities, the second edition of the Valletta Film Festival handed out its awards on Saturday 11 June.

The jury for the fiction competition, made up of German director Carolina Heilsgard, Romanian actress Cosmina Stratan, Egyptian director Tamer El Said, Belgian director Valéry Rosier and Franco-Chilean actor Brontis Jodorowsky, honoured the Swedish film The Yard [+see also:

As for the documentaries, Walls by Pablo Iraburu and Migueltxo Molina was crowned Best Film, while the jury, comprising Latvian director Laila Pakalniņa, the founder of Sunny Side of the Doc, Yves Janneau, and the director of the Reykjavik Film Festival, Hrönn Marinósdóttir, bestowed a Special Mention upon Hotel Dallas [+see also:

The short-film jury, made up of US journalist Alissia Simon, Irish screenwriter Mary Kate O’Flanagan, and Maltese directors and screenwriter Kenneth Scicluna, Stefan Babara and Sergiu Ciorescu, offered Italian director Alessandro Capitani the Triton for Best Film for Bellissima, in addition to three Special Mentions.

The third edition of the Valletta Film Festival, organised by the Film Grain Foundation, will be held from 16-25 June 2017.
