Chaired by French filmmaker Valérie Donzelli, the jury of the 55th Critics’ Week of the 69th Cannes Film Festival has awarded the 2016 Grand Prize to Mimosas [+see also:

 by Spaniard Óliver Laxe. The second feature by the filmmaker was produced by Zeitun Films, and co-produced by Morocco, Qatar and France (via Rouge International). UFO Distribution will take care of the French release, while international sales are managed by Paris-based firm Luxbox.

 by Turkey’s Mehmet Can Mertoglu. Produced by Turkey (Kamara), and co-produced by Romania (Parada Film) and France via ASAP Films and Arte France Cinéma, and with backing from Eurimages, this feature debut will be distributed in France by Le Pacte and is being sold abroad by German sales agent The Match Factory.

The Gan Foundation Award for Distribution was given to Sophie Dulac Distribution, which will bring out One Week and a Day [+see also:

by Israeli director Asaph Polonsky in France. Interestingly, the SACD Award singled out Davy Chou and Claire Maugendre, the co-writers of Diamond Island [+see also:

Lastly, in terms of the short films, the Discovery Prize was bestowed upon Prenjak by Indonesia’s Wregas Bhanuteja, and L'Enfance du chef by French director Antoine de Bary was crowned with the Canal+ Award.
