04/05/2016 - New films by Norwegian director Mikkel B Sandemose and Danish director Peter Schønau Fog are the latest additions to the Danish company’s 2016 line-up

Danish international sales agency TrustNordisk has picked up Norwegian director Mikkel B Sandemose’s upcoming fairytale, The Ash Lad – In the Hall of the Mountain King (read news) to complete its line-up for the Film Market at the 69^th Cannes Film Festival.

“Sandemose has a unique talent for telling adventurous, fantastic tales with a thrilling twist,” said TrustNordisk CEO Rikke Ennis; a classic in Norwegian folklore, the Ash Lad is about a farmer’s son who – with his brothers - embarks on a dangerous quest to save the princess from a vile troll.The Synnøve Hørsdal and Åshild Ramborg production for Maipo Film will be ready in September 2017. An award-winning director of commercials, Sandemose’s previous work includes horror movie Cold Prey III (2010) and Viking action adventure Ragnarok [+see also:

film profile], adapted from Danish author Christian Jungersen’s novel, with Sweden’s Michael Nyqvist and Denmark’s Trine Dyrholm and Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the leads. It tells the story of a highly respected headmaster, who has for three years suffered from a slow-growing brain tumour, and is now accused of embezzling €1.6 million from his Copenhagen school. But was he himself when he did it? Louise Vesth produced the film for Zentropa Entertainments, and the premiere is set for February 2017.
