Coulier made a name for himself in 2013 when he was selected to compete in the Short Film section at Cannes with Mont Blanc. Recently he has been directing the out-of-the-ordinary eight-part television series Bevergem, which was broadcast in Belgium on Canvas. The show was named as Humo magazine's Best Series of 2015.

Cargo is the first feature film to be produced by De Wereldvrede, as a co-production with Dutch production company Halal, with support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund, the city of Ostend and Screen Flanders
