The Golden Globe Awards are American film prizes that have been handed out since 1944 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), comprising a jury of around 90 specialist journalists hailing from 55 countries. On an annual basis, they serve to reward the best films of the year and represent a crucial stage in the Oscars race. This nomination is a very promising sign for The Brand New Testament [+see also:

Furthermore, the movie is duking it out for the Satellite Awards, another "stepping stone" on the way to the Oscars, and will also take part in the European Film Awards. It’s not the first time that Jaco Van Dormael has taken part in the Golden Globes, as he had already been nominated for The Eighth Day. If he were to win, he would follow in the footsteps of Gérard Corbiau and Farinelli, which won in 1995, and Alain Berliner and Ma vie en rose, which was singled out in 1998. The Brand New Testament, which was presented at Cannes and came out in theatres in September, has proven to be extremely successful in Belgium, where it has drawn in over 280,000 viewers, quite an achievement in comparison with recent figures. The film has also had a very good run in France and has been sold in more than 50 territories.
