- From 12-19 December, the Nordic country will be in focus at France’s seventh Les Arcs European Film Festival – one of Europe’s fastest-growing showcases

Norwegian cinema will be in focus at the seventh Les Arcs European Film Festival in the French ski resort, which will take place between 12 and 19 December: 14 recent features will be part of the main programme, together with a package of shorts, and five new Norwegian projects will be presented in the festival’s Coproduction Village.

“In recent years, Norway has been a very dynamic film country, bringing a lot of new talent to the European scene,” explained Les Arcs Festival founder and general manager Guillaume Calop, when he visited the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund (15-21 August) in order to be on the panel to discuss “The Role of Film Festivals” and find entries for his gathering.

The festival opener will be Norwegian director Roar Uthaug’s The Wave [+see also:

– Norway’s (and the Nordic countries’) first disaster movie – which has taken 830,000 admissions domestically and been chosen as Norway’s submission for the Oscar nomination for Best Foreign-language Film. The selection of features also includes Erik Løchen’s classic The Hunt (1959), Erik Skjoldbjærg’s feature debut, Insomnia (1997), and Ole Giæver’s Out of Nature [+see also:

“We are very pleased that Les Arcs has chosen Norway as its focus country for 2015. Over a few years, Les Arcs has established itself as an important European film festival and an important gateway to the French market,” said Stine Helgeland, executive director of promotion and international relations at the Norwegian Film Institute. “We hope the result will contribute to an increased collaboration between the Norwegian and French film industries, also supporting the international export of Norwegian cinema. About 35 Norwegian film professionals will attend the festival,” concluded Helgeland, who will be there herself with the institute’s managing director, Sindre Guldvog, international festival manager - feature films Stine Oppegaard, international cultural events manager Astri Dehli Blindheim, and production advisors Sveinung Golimo and Anne Frilseth

The Norwegian entries in the Les Arcs Coproduction Village are Trygve Allister Diesen’s Loot, Jakob Rørvik’s Eternal Summer, Joern Utkilen’s Lake over Fire [+see also:
