film profile] by Mario Martone was named the winner of the Golden Globe for best film of 2015. After picking up 5 David di Donatello awards on 12 June, the biopic on Giacomo Leopardi was awarded the main prize of the Association of Foreign Press in Italy. Martone was said to be particularly pleased with the award, which he considers “a good sign of how the film will fare on the international stage”, after it was released in France in April.

The award ceremony of the 55th edition of the Italian Golden Globes was held yesterday at Palazzo Farnese in Rome, and was attended by the Minister for Culture, Dario Franceschini. The foreign press decided to award the Grand Prize to the great Ermanno Olmi for Greenery Will Bloom Again [+see also:

"I’m delighted with the Globe, even if a lifetime achievement award does make you feel like your career is over, when I’m still going strong” said the 72-year-old set designer who has just come back from spending 8 months in Taiwan working on Silence, his ninth film with Martin Scorsese.
