Nine feature films will benefit from production aid from the Ile-de-France Region’s Support Fund for Film and Audiovisual Technical Industries. Standing out among the titles selected during the second session of 2015 is the animated project Minuscule, les mandibules du bout du monde (lit. “Minuscule, the Mandibles from the World’s End”) by Hélène Giraud and Thomas Szabo, which will be the second cinematic opus in an adventure that kicked off on television in 2003 and made the leap to the silver screen with last year’s box-office smash Minuscule – Valley of the Lost Ants [+see also:

film profile]. This time around, our tiny heroes are getting ready for winter in the Mercantour National Park. But the queen of the black ants is not feeling so great, as she has low glucose levels, so in order to find her some sugar, our heroine Mandibule the ant will have to venture out to the grocer’s in the village... With a budget of €11.75 million at its disposal, Minuscule, les mandibules du bout du monde is produced by Futurikon (which is also handling international sales), with a minority Belgian co-production and backing from such organisations as Canal+ and Orange, and with Le Pacte in charge of French distribution. The production process will last 357 days, 294 of which will be spent in the Ile-de-France region, which will support the project to the tune of €336,000.
