Barbarians and Self-Portrait of a Dutiful Daughter split the Crossing Europe Award

At the 12th Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz (23-28 April), the Best Fiction Film Award, worth €10,000 and provided by Linz Kultur & Land Oberösterreich/Kultur, was split ex aequo between Ana Lungu's Self-Portrait of a Dutiful Daughter [+see also:

and Ivan Ikić's Barbarians [+see also:

. The former world-premiered at Rotterdam and the latter at last year's Karlovy Vary.

The jury, consisting of Andrea Štaka, Michael Stütz and Syllas Tzoumerkas, who had to choose from 12 first or second films by European directors, explained their unanimous decision with the statement: “The jury decided to award two portraits of youth in two different social milieus, struggling with feelings of safety or the lack of it.”

In the documentary competition, the Crossing Europe Social Awareness Award, worth €5,000 and donated by Land Oberösterreich/Soziales, went to Vladimir Tomić's Berlinale Forum title Flotel Europa [+see also:

The jury, comprising Sebastian Brameshuber, Ina Rossow and Zaza Rusadze,stated the reason for their decision with these words: “Subjectively recounted with private video recordings, and yet – or perhaps especially for that reason – a universal story of growing up, of first love and first goodbyes against the background of war and fleeing.”

The Audience Award for Best Fiction Film, which comes with €1,000 from Crossing Europe, a hotel voucher sponsored by Park Inn by Radisson Linz and a June screening at the Moviemento cinema, in co-operation with ray film magazine, went to Moldovan director Anatol Durbală for What a Wonderful World [+see also:

In the regional Upper Austrian competition, the Crossing Europe Award – Local Artist and €5,000 from Land Oberösterreich/Kultur went to Eden’s Edge – Three Shorts on the Californian Desert by ONLSD, Leo Calice and Gerhard Treml.

The short documentary Farfalla by Felix Huber received the Vienna Synchro award, worth €2,000 in post-production services. 

Eva Huber's feature-length documentary Monumenti picked up the Social Awareness Award – Local Artist and €4,000 from Land Oberösterreich/Soziales, while a Special Mention was given to Ufuk Serbest for Evdeki Ses – 22m² Österreich

The jury for all the Local Artist awards was made up of Magnus Hofmüller, Peter Schernhuber and Alexandra Schneider.

The Creative Region Music Video Audience Award and €1,500, provided by Creative Region Linz & Upper Austria, went to Lukas Jakob Löcker for Heaven – Felix Schager, Konstantin Diggn. Meanwhile, Vildan Turalić's experimental Untitled 2014 got the Local Artist Atelier Award from Atelierhaus Salzamt der Stadt Linz.

Finally, theLocal Artist Film Location Tabakfabrik prize, awarded for the first time, went to Klaus Pamminger for Notes on Mackey.

Festival director Christine Dollhofer reported a new audience record of almost 22,000 visitors and announced that the next Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz would take place from 21-26 April 2016.
