Written by Samuel Benchetrit, and based on his biographical novel Les chroniques de l'asphalte (of which three volumes out of the planned five have already been published), the story is set in a block of flats on a council estate. With the lift constantly out of order, this leads to a number of encounters between the inhabitants of the building: old Sternkowitz and his nurse, Jeanne, a retired actress, young Charly, McKenzie the astronaut and Mrs Hamida. The one thing they all have in common is their loneliness. Their paths cross, they begin to socialise, and they find that they are brought closer together by the great tenderness that they all harbour.

Produced by Marie Savare for Maje Productions and Julien Madon for A Single Man, together with Ivan Taïeb for La Caméra Deluxe, Asphalte has been pre-purchased by OCS and is benefiting from backing from the Alsace region. The film will be distributed in France by Paradis and sold abroad by TF1 International.
