The first clapperboard will slam on 11 August for Baden Baden, the feature debut by Rachel Lang, a young director who has been turning a lot of heads with her short films (winning a Silver Leopard at Locarno in 2010 with For You I Will Fight and the Ingmar Bergman Award at Uppsala in 2011 for Les navets blancs empêchent de dormir). According to Cineuropa’s sources, the cast includes Salomé Richard (a regular collaborator with the director), Zabou Breitman (nominated twice for the César for Best Supporting Actress, including in 2012 for The Minister [+see also:

Written by the director herself, the story revolves around Ana, who is 24. After leaving a film shoot on which she felt very much out of place, she returns to Strasbourg, the city where she spent her teenage years. She sets herself the task of swapping her grandmother’s bathtub for a floor-level shower, which would be a more appropriate setup for a person of her age. Over the course of one summer, an old flame is rekindled, her grandmother is hospitalised and Ana tries to somehow sort her life out.

Interestingly, Baden Baden (working title Seule comme une baignoire) went through Les Ateliers d'Angers, and the film will round off a trilogy featuring Ana as the central character, which began with the two aforementioned short films.

Produced by Jérémy Forni for French outfit ChevalDeuxTrois, and by Joseph Rouschop and Valérie Bournonville for Belgian firm TarantulaBaden Baden is benefitting from the support provided by the advance on receipts from the CNC, backing from the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel (CCA – Wallonia-Brussels Federation), a pre-purchase by Ciné+, and support from the Alsace region and the Urban Community of Strasbourg. The shoot will take place from 11 August to 23 September in Brussels, Strasbourg and the entire Alsace region. Distribution in France and international sales will be handled by Jour2Fête.
