Limbo lifts five Amandas

Backed by ten Amanda nominations – Norway’s national film prize - Norwegian director Maria Sødahl’s Limbo [+see also:

cashed in half of them on Saturday (August 20) at the televised awards ceremony in Haugesund’s Festiviteten Concert Hall, prior to the opening of the 39th Norwegian International Film Festival.

Sødahl’s third feature, which opened last year’s Haugesund festival (and went on to scoop for Best Director at the Montreal Film Festival), won both for Best Actress (Line Verndal) and Best Supporting Actress(Sweden’s Lena Endre).

(Kongenaf Bastøy), which was nominated in eight categories, was named as Best Feature, as well as winning the prizes for Best Supporting Actor (Trond Nilssen) and Best Musical Score (Johan Søderqvist).

Five juries, presided by Bjørn Simonsen had a record number of 34 local productions to consider in the ten different categories. Norwegian veteran actor Bjørn Floberg, most recently starring in the VargVeum [+see also:

franchise, received the 2011 Honorary Amanda.
