Record opening for second Twigson

Released last weekend in Norway by Scanbox Entertainment, the family film Twigson Ties the Knot by debut director Martin Lund sold almost 100,000 tickets from 109 screens, making it the best opening weekend ever for a Norwegian children’s film and the third best domestic opening ever for a Norwegian film after WW2 epic Max Manus [+see also:

The second instalment based on Anne Cath’s classic children’s novel also had the second biggest opening of the year after Twilight Saga: Eclipse (102,412 admissions). Producer Finn Gjerdrum (Paradox) said he was particularly pleased with the results for Lund, who had a lot of pressure to match last year’s excellent results of the first film of the series, Twigson [+see also:

, which sold over 375,000 tickets to snag sixth place at the domestic box office for 2009.

Twigson Ties the Knot humorously mixes live action and animation in the adventures of the young boy Junior and his imaginary friend, the wooden twig Twigson. In this second episode, the two solve a crime and Twigson learns how to fly while meeting the extraordinary birch twig Karoline.

The first Twigson film will open in over seven European territories between late 2010 and early 2011. Both films of the series are sold internationally by Sola Media.
