The University of Theatre and Film Arts is one of Europe’s most versatile institutions providing education of the highest standards. It is truly one of a kind in Hungary, being the sole institution providing BA and MA degrees to the future creative artists of theatre, film and television. It strives to create conditions and programmes that foster quality above all, training students who achieve the highest possible standards.

One of the most unique features of the university is that all members of the academic staff are active artists. They are outstanding figures in the fields of Hungarian theatre, film and television, who are passing on the essence of their professional experience to the students. Therefore, the university is truly a part of the network of artistic life.

Ódry Stage, named after the legendary teacher of the thirties when it opened in 1958, is the University’s own performance place functioning as a workshop for acting and directing students. Here, the emerging artist have a chance to introduce their work to the general public and performing arts professionals for the first time in their career. The experimental, playful and fresh approach of these young professionals distinctly sets Ódry apart from other theatres. The repertoire is versatile, the performances are directed by the university’s student and artist teachers and the most renowned representatives of Hungarian theatre.

As a result of the institution’s teaching methods, the students’ works receive a high number of awards at festivals around the world each year. However, the most important indicator of the university’s achievements is that its graduates belong to the top professionals of their artistic fields. The majority of the most recognised Hungarian theatre, film and television professionals have received their education at the University of Theatre and Film Arts.

To this day, the university continues to grow in quality and appeal, as does the number of applicants year after year, receiving on average 20 times more applications for its programmes than their capacity.

The 150-year-old University of Theatre and Film Arts provides programmes in a number of fields related to theatre, film and television. It is one of the unique features of the university that all members of the academic staff are active artists. 5-year, undivided MA programmes: Acting, Stage Directing, Theatre Script Editing, Film Script Editing, Acting - Musical Actor, Acting - Puppeteering, Stage Directing - Directing Opera and Musical, Stage Directing - Choreographer-Director for Physical Theatre, Stage Directing - Directing Puppet Performances. 

BA programmes: Motion Picture Studies - Motion Picture Editing, Motion Picture Studies - Motion Picture Sound Directing, Motion Picture Studies - Motion Picture Directing, Production Management, Cameraman Studies, Television Production, Drama Education

MA programmes: Film Directing, Cinematography, Documentary Film Directing, Production Design, DocNomads - Erasmus Mundus

Admission and entry requirements: Baccalaureate/ BA for the MA
