Almost €4 million have been granted to 16 features, eight short films and 17 creative documentaries during the Film Selection Committee’s second session of 2018 at the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Film Centre. Among the myriad movies receiving production support is Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s Young Ahmed [+leggi anche:

, which is currently being shot and tells the story of a young boy striving to break free from religious fanaticism. The film is being staged by the brothers’ own company, Les Films du FleuveBouli Lanners is taking on a fresh challenge with Wise Blood, an English-language love story set in Scotland, for which he is once again partnering up with Versus Production. Philippe Van Leeuw is making his comeback with The Wall, about a female member of a border patrol on the boundary between Arizona and Mexico. The filmmaker’s new effort will again be staged by Altitude 100. Lastly, Gérard Corbiau is helming a new musical film, Saving Mozart, a project being produced by Saga Film.

Two feature debuts are also receiving production support: Sous la Glace by Zeno Graton, staged by Tarantula, and La Naissance des arbres by Laura Wandel, whose short film Foreign Bodies was part of the Official Selection at Cannes in 2014.

), co-produced by Frakas Productions in Belgium and bathysphere in France, Poissonsexe by Olivier Babinet (Swagger [+leggi anche:

), co-produced by Tarantula and produced in France by Comme des cinémas, as well as Claire Simon’s documentary Le Village, produced by Clin d’Oeil Films in Belgium and Petit à Petit Production in France.

A number of other projects in development have been announced, most notably the comedy Chaleur sans frontière by Ivan Goldschmidt, whose short film Na Wewe was selected for the Oscars (a Stenola production), and La Vie Mécanique, the fiction feature debut by director Eve Duchemin, who scooped the Magritte Award for Best Documentary two years ago for En bataille, portrait d’une directrice de prison. Her new outing will again be produced by Kwassa Films.
