(unveiled at Cannes in 2012 on the ACID programme, subsequently taking part in Karlovy Vary and Busan) before promptly following this up with Ningen (revealed at Toronto in 2013 in the Contemporary World Cinema section). A joint effort between France (41%), Germany (28%), Luxembourg (21%) and Turkey (10%), their new opus stars Damla SönmezErkan Kolçak KôstendilEmin GûrsoyElit Iscan and Meral Çetinkaya.

The story, written by Çagla Zencirci, Ramata Sy and Guillaume Giovanetti, revolves around 25-year-old Sibel, who lives with her father and sister in a secluded village in the mountains of Turkey's Black Sea region. Sibel is a mute, but she communicates by using the ancestral whistled language of the area. Rejected by her fellow villagers, she relentlessly hunts down a wolf that is said to be prowling in the neighbouring forest, sparking off fears and fantasies among the village women. There she crosses path with a fugitive. Injured, threatening and vulnerable, he sees her, for the first time, with fresh eyes.

Sibel was produced by Marie Legrand and Rani Massalha for French outfit Les Films du Tambour together with Germany’s Riva Filmproduktion (Michael Eckelt and Johannes Jancke), Luxembourg’s Bidibul Productions (Christel Henon and Lilian Eche) and Turkey’s Mars Production (Marsel Kalvo and Nefes Polat). The feature, which was co-produced by Paris-based outfit Reborn Production (Marc Simoncini), secured backing from Eurimages, the CNC’s World Cinema Support, the French-German mini co-production treaty, the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein regional fund and the Cofinova Sofica. Pyramide will also be handling the French distribution of the film.

At Locarno, Pyramide International will also be selling Breath of Life [+leggi anche:
