Tamara Babun, Emerging Producer 2016 from Croatia, represents production company Factum.

Cineuropa: What qualities should a documentary producer have these days?
Tamara Babun: A producer should always be daring, and aware of her or his own current condition and the condition of the world in which a film is being made and promoted. What she or he does with this awareness and audacity should be authentic, a result of highly individual and possibly original ideas.

To what extent do you, as a producer, get involved in the creative process?
It depends on the project and my role in it. Where possible, I tend to get involved as much as I can and in such a way that empowers the directors (and screenwriters) to fully express their own voice. This means knowing the difference between my own ideas or personal taste and what is good for the project. It is not always easy but it is very satisfying when I succeed.

What projects do you have under way?
As presented in Jihlava, I am working with director Andrej Korovoljev and producer Nenad Puhovski on the project Tusta (read more). We are just finishing a poetic documentary A Two Way Mirror written and directed by Katarina Zrinka Matijević (with producer Nenad Puhovski - read more), an author driven film by a well-known Croatian writer Pero Kvesić Dum Spiro Spero (with producer Nenad Puhovski - read more) and a reflexive feature-length documentary entitled Generation '68 written and directed by Nenad Puhovski (read more).
