by Romanian director Ioana Uricaru has walked away with the Golden Lynx at the 14th FEST - New Directors/New Films Festival. First unveiled at the most recent Berlinale, the film focuses on the trials and tribulations of a Romanian woman and her son as they adjust to their new life in the United States. Uricaru herself has been based in the United States for nearly 20 years, and her feature debut is a co-production between Romania, Canada, Germany and Sweden.

by Austrian directors Angelika Spangel and Matthias Krepp, while Lupo [+lire aussi :

, by Portuguese director Pedro Lino, enjoyed an Honorary Mention. This feature which follows the life of Italian film producer and director Rino Lupo, was also the winner of the Cineuropa Audience Award.

The Grand National Prize, which crowns the best Portuguese short-film, was awarded to Água mole by Laura Gonçalves and Alexandra Ramires, while Honorary Mentions were given to Fidalga by Flávio Ferreira and Uma formiga by João Veloso.

FEST officially came to an end yesterday, after 7 days spent screening 240 films, as well as hosting a number of sidebar events, including the ever-popular Training Ground programme, which this year boasted a masterclass with Asghar Farhadi, alongside an unscheduled screening of his latest European production, Everybody Knows [+lire aussi :
