Tallinn Black Nights’ industry section keeps on growing and branching out from year to year, and at its latest edition, in addition to International and Baltic Works in Progress, and the Co-Production Market, it included the Storytek Forum, the European Genre Forum and the first-ever Baltic Preview @ PÖFF Shorts.

The second Storytek Forum took place on 29 November. Bearing the tagline "A-class film festival meets tech accelerator," Storytek brings together deep audiovisual sector knowledge, technology and funding with a selection of handpicked tech entrepreneurs and content creators. The purpose of Storytek is to help creatives, producers and early-stage companies to develop business, fast-track their content, products and services to the global markets, and access finances.

The Storytek Forum included panels and discussions, such as Future Content Models (with Eric Stein from Impact Global Media, freelance content and media consultant David Kwok, digital media engagement and experience strategist Kathleen Cohen, and Kristen Davis of CinqC); Intersection of Content and Technology (with Marjo Kukkonen of Unibet & Kindred Group and Harald Neihardt of MLOVE); Big Scale IP Business - From Rights to Remakes, Getting Your Content Globally Monetised (with Charles Lei of Thunder Communications and Sarah Penna of Big Frame); the SheTech Discussion (with all-female participants, listed above); and the Investor & Financier Roundtable (with Ilann Girard of OLFFI and Ewan Rudowski of Atlantic Leap).

Also, the Forum featured the demo session of the Storytek Creative Accelerator Cohort One, presenting projects from companies with audiovisual/multiformat prototypes or tech projects, and globally adaptable concepts, products or services.

The European Genre Forum, organised by Black Nights, the Imagine Film Festival from Amsterdam, the Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival and film consultancy company Screen Division from Paris, presented eight new genre projects from Austria, the UK, Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Croatia and the Netherlands. Finally, the former Black Nights Sleepwalkers, the short-film programme, is now called Shorts@PÖFF and has its own industry section, the Baltic Preview. It is a short-film mini-market pilot event organised by the Estonian Short Film Centre ShortEst, in collaboration with its Lithuanian and Latvian partners, and Creative Gate. The two-day event included four sessions of preview screenings of the newest Baltic short films for festivals and buyers, as well as the "Shorts of Tomorrow" panels and discussions on the future of festival programming and short-film distribution outside festivals, plus presentations of the Austrian animation studio Neuer Österreichischer Trickfilm (by Johannes Schiehls), the new Israeli T-Port online market (by Niv Fux), the Danish platform for the development of animated documentary projects AniDox (by Uri Kranot) and the Norwegian production company Alfred Film & TV (by Silje Bürgin-Borch).
