The screenplay, written by Lungu and Iris Spiridon, follows three friends, a single woman (Iris Spiridon), a divorced father (Marius Manole) and a gay man (István Téglás), who share an apartment in Bucharest. When the woman falls in love with a Hungarian writer (László Mátray) from Transylvania, the fragile equilibrium of her relationship with the other two protagonists will be put to the test.

Lungu tells Cineuropa that she decided to make the film independently after applying to two funding sessions of the Romanian National Film Center and failing to win support. “Without national financial support, there is no chance to apply to foreign film funds, which makes co-productions impossible,” Lungu explains. The film was made with support from friends, including actor Marius Manole, screenwriter Răzvan Rădulescu and Cornelia Popa, the head of Cinelabs Romania, which is now helping with the post-production. “As we made the film independently, the screenplay had to be changed. Several scenes, representing approximately 30%-40% of the original story, could not be shot,” Lungu says.

The director describes One and a Half Prince as “a film about love and friendship. Love versus friendship. Which one is stronger, and which one is deeper?” The project is now looking for a world sales company and a distributor.
