"My Orthodox monk, a metaphor of human strife"

A guest as the Star of European cinema at the 13th Lecce Film Festival, which held a retrospective of 10 of his films and a photo exhibition in his honour, Emir Kusturica talks about his latest feature, directed and acted in by him: Our Life, an episode from the collective film Words with Gods in which an Orthodox monk, busy with the building works on a new monastery, climbs up a hill every day carrying a sack containing the remains of used rocks, surmounting a thousand obstacles. When he reaches the top he cries, smiles, throws the rocks down and goes back down again. The film, coordinated by the Mexican director Guillermo Arriaga, might be presented at the next Venice Film Festival. Its authors also include Alex de la Iglesia, Mira Nair and Bahman Ghobadi.
