In the interview French director Patrice Chéreau talks about his film Son frère) (2003), a story about brothers and an illness.
The director came across the film's source material, the novel by Philippe Besson, while he was studying the suffering of Napoleon. Son frère in fact presents a physical degeneration, a portrait of an illness, of a body in pain, but above all it is a portrait of a relationship between two brothers, because as he says, sickness doesn't only break down the patient's life, but it also changes all those around him.
Chéreau explains how the film presents a theme that is not usually possible to see. No one can see his own death. His also underlines the importance to believe and fight for life, and most of all, to desire to live.
