StudioCanal and TF1 International play their trump cards

While the weather and the euro’s strength against the dollar have affected Cannes attendance figures (which are not as high as usual), business deals and announcements have certainly not died down at the Cannes Festival Film Market.

StudioCanal have just announced that next year shooting will begin on a biopic about Yves Montand, the politically active singer and actor who had an eventful love life. The film is co-written by the producer Jean-Louis Livi (Montand’s nephew), Christophe Ruggia and Patrick Rotman.

With a bumper line-up at this year’s Cannes Festival (including Laetitia Colombani’s Mes stars et moi, Danièle Thompson’s Le code a changé and Robert Guédiguian’s L’armée du crime), StudioCanal have also revealed that they’ll be backing Rachid Bouchareb’s new project. The film – which will begin shooting next year and stars part of the same cast of Days of Glory [+see also:

– will centre on the Algerian National Liberation Front’s (FLN) campaign in Paris during the war of independence (3B Productions).

TF1 International have added to their slate Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Micmacs à tire-larigot (“Playing Games to Your Heart’s Content”, see news), which is now set to star Dany Boon.

TF1 are also showcasing other titles at Cannes, including Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire’s Johnny Mad Dog [+see also:
