(released summer 2006 and January 2007 respectively), talented young German director Marcus H. After Grave Decisions, whose young hero told himself stories, and Heavyweights about vibrant Olympic aspirations, this new film is a comedy about the dreams of two young girls: Kati, about to turn 17, and her friend Jo.

Kati has nothing but boys on her mind and is both impatient and afraid of going to the United States on an exchange and leaving her country and her great love Mike behind. Jo, meanwhile, is simpler, happy speeding on her motorbike and surrounded by good friends. Written by Karin Michalke, Beste Zeit was produced by Hamburg-based outfit Monaco Film.

Four other European titles hit screens this week, including Sounds of Sand, the French/Belgian drama by Marion Hänsel (co-producer, among others, of No Man's Land [+see also:

), in which an African family is forced to make its exodus through the desert, meeting soldiers along the way. The film is being distributed by Kinowelt.

Meanwhile, Film Kino Text is releasing Heinz Bütler’s 2001 Swiss documentary Alberto Giacometti – Die Augen am Horizont.

German filmgoers will also be able to see the reissue of two British classics: Roman Polanski’s The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967, dist. Neue Visionen) and Jim Sharman’s infamous musical comedy The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, Croco Film).
