These films will be judged by a jury presided over by Jan Harlan, brother-in-law and producer of the last films by Stanley Kubrick. The festival is furthermore holding an exhibit devoted to the US film legend, which was presented two years ago in Frankfurt. Organised by Kubrick’s wife, archive material of this detail-obsessed director will be on display from October 4 until January 2007: over 1,300 square metres of photos, sketches and notes, sets, costumes, models from 2001: A Space Odyssey and props from A Clockwork Orange.

The festival is also organising a complete retrospective of his work and an evening of debates with Harlan and French critic Michel Ciment, another jury member.

The other important event is an homage to French director Agnès Varda. Along with an exhibition of her video installations and a retrospective, she will be awarded the Joseph Plateau Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other sections of the festival include several preview screenings (The Queen [+see also:

Two other main sections at Ghent are jam packed with films and discoveries. The World Cinema sidebar will offer almost 50 films yet to find distributors in Belgium (The Free Will, Grounded: The Last Days of Swissair [+see also:
