Eurimages supports 29 co-productions

Eurimages supports 29 co-productions

The results of the third Eurimages Project Evaluation Session of 2023 have just been announced. Further to recommendations made by independent experts meeting online, the Executive Committee of the Fund has decided to support the co-production of 29 feature films, including 7 documentaries and 3 animations, for a total amount of €8 130 000. Of the 29 co-production projects supported during the session, 14 are to be directed or co-directed by women. This represents 46.90% of the total funding awarded.

The films supported include the new work by acclaimed directors such as Hungarian filmmaker Ildikó Enyedi, who won the Golden Bear in 2017 with On Body and Soul [+see also:

was selected in Competition at Cannes in 2021, who has received €500,000 for Silent Friend (Germany/France/Hungary). Other veteran filmmakers that have received funding for their new projects are Spain's Alejandro Amenábar, for The Captive, his new film after his first series La Fortuna [+see also:

and a co-production between Spain and Italy (€500,000); Georgia's George Ovashvili for The Moon Is a Father of Mine, a co-production between Georgia, Germany, Luxembourg, Bulgaria and Czech Republic (€118,000); Germany's Ulrich Köhler, for Gavagai, a co-production between Germany and France (€340,000) and Austria's Markus Schleinzer for Rose, a co-production between Austria and Germany (€450,000). ) has also received funding for his new projects, €368,000 for Yellow Letters (Germany/France).

Other established filmmakers that have received funding for their new projects are Austria's Sandra Wollner (€380,000 for Everytime, a co-production between Austria and Germany), Malaysia's Wi Ding Ho (€400,000 for House of Stairs, a co-production between Canada, France and Belgium), France's Arab Nasser and Tarzan Nasser (€350,000 for Once Upon a Time in Gaza, a co-production between France, Germany and Portugal), and Czech Republic's Veronika Liskova (€240,000 for Year of the Widow, a co-production between Czech Republic, Slovakia and Croatia - read news).

On the other hand, the supported first fiction features are From Dawn to Dawn (Spain/France) by Spain's Xisi Sofia Ye Chen, with €80,000; I'll Be Gone in June (Germany/Switzerland) by Germany's Katharina Rivilis with €300,000; Reedland (Netherlands/Belgium) by Netherlands' Sven Bresser, with €225,000; The Answer is Land (Norway/Finland/Sweden) by Norway's Elle Sofe Sara, with €330,000; and The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo (France/Chile/Belgium/Spain) by Chile's Diego Céspedes, with €139,000.

The animation films financed are Girl in the Clouds (France/Belgium) by France's Philippe Riche with €500,000; Sidi Kaba and the Gateway Home (France/Germany/Luxembourg/Belgium) by France's Rony Hotin with €382,000; and The Light of Aisha (Spain/Germany) by Germany's Shadi Adib with €450,000.

Regarding the supported documentaries, the titles are Climate in Therapy (Sweden/Norway) by Sweden's Nathan Grossman with €70,000; Cuba & Alaska (France/Belgium/Ukraine) by Ukraine's Iegor Troianovskyi with €150,000; Last Letters from my Grandma (Belgium/Romania/Netherlands/Moldova) by Belgium's Olga Lucovnicova with €150,000; Like Any Other Mortal (Netherlands/Spain) by Netherlands' Maria Molina Peiró with €50,000; Love Exposed (Czech Republic/Slovakia) by Czech Republic's Filip Remunda with €100,000; The Ground Beneath Our Feet (Iceland/Poland) by Iceland's Ysra Roca Fannberg with €48,000; and The Last Nomads (Serbia/France/Slovenia/Montenegro/Belgium) by Serbia's Biljana Tutorov and Peter Glomazic with €150,000.
