Written by the director herself alongside Jean-René Lemoine and loosely inspired by doctors Denis Mukwege (awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018) and Guy-Bernard Cadière, the story speaks of how certain battles can change the course of history. In the depths of Central Africa, Congolese doctor and future Novel Prize winner Denis Mukwege (Isaach de Bankolé) risks his life to militate and treat thousands of women who have suffered sexual violence and whose bodies have become a weapon of war. An encounter with renowned Belgian surgeon Guy-Bernard Cadière (Vincent Macaigne) breathes fresh life into his engagement. Together they work to ensure these women regain a sense of dignity and hope…

Celui qui soigna Muganga is produced by Cynthia Pinet on behalf of Petites Poupées Production, in co-production with France 3 Cinéma, UGC (who hold full exploitation rights for the picture), Palermo Production, Ça Va Aller Production, and Belgium’s Scope Pictures. The feature film has been pre-purchased by France Télévisions and also enjoys an advance on receipts from the CNC. Filming will take place in Gabon, Belgium and the USA, before wrapping in mid-September.
