Following the announcement of the film’s acquisition by Cohen Media for the North American market at the beginning of the month, The Match Factory has now announced further sales - in key territories - of Marco Bellocchio’s new movie Kidnapped [+see also:

, which competed in the Cannes Film Festival this year and is currently on the bill in Italian cinemas. Telling the true story of young Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara’s kidnapping, which was ordered by Pope Pius IX in 1858, and starring Paolo Pierobon, Fausto Russo Alesi, Barbara Ronchi, Enea Sala and Leonardo Maltese, alongside Filippo Timi and Fabrizio Gifuni, Kidnapped was released in Italian cinemas on 25 May, courtesy of 01 Distribution, earning itself upwards of a million euros in just two weeks. Ad Vitam are set to distribute the movie in French cinemas on 1 November, and Pandora in German cinemas on 16 November.

Bellocchio’s Cannes competitor has been sold to Curzon for the UK and Ireland; Palace Entertainment for Australia and New Zealand; Fine Films for Japan; Cine Video y TV for the whole of Latin America; Vértigo Films for Spain and Alambique for Portugal; Cherry Pickers for Benelux and Agora Films for Switzerland; Best Film for Poland; Rosebud.21 for Greece and Cyprus; Aerofilms for the Czech Republic and Slovakia; MCF Megacom for the countries of former Yugoslavia; Vertigo Media for Hungary; Kino Pavasaris for the Baltic states; Art Fest for Bulgaria; United King Video for Israel; Traffic Films for Ukraine; Light Year Images for Taiwan, and Falcon Pictures for Indonesia. Other territories are currently under negotiation.

Kidnapped is an IBC Movie, Kavac Film and RAI Cinema production, co-produced by French firm Ad Vitam and Germany’s The Match Factory, in league with of Canal+, Ciné+, Bayerischer Rundfunk, and ARTE France Cinéma, and in association with ARTE and Film-und Medienstiftung NRW, with the backing of the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Emilia-Romagna and Ile-de-France regions.
