Twelve first or second features will be competing for the Transilvania Trophy at the 17th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (25 May-3 June, Cluj-Napoca). According to artistic director Mihai Chirilov, this year’s selection lies at the crossroads between “formal bets, ambitious and deeply humane stories, the political turmoil we see everywhere today, and personal and intimate dramas”. In a press release, he also mentions “original approaches, radical propositions, conflicts on the edge, black humour and pure emotion” as the common denominators of this year's competition choices. The jury, consisting of French director Stéphane Foenkinos, Icelandic filmmaker Dagur Kari and British screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz, among others, will announce the winners during a gala on 2 June.
