The East End Film Festival, now in its 17th edition, is training a strong spotlight on female filmmakers. Over one-third of the films on show at the gathering are directed by women: there are screenings of the UK drama Pin Cushion [+see also:

Furthermore, there will be a world premiere of the UK drama I Made This For You by Cristian Solimeno; the film is part of the “platform for dialogue” section and will screen in collaboration with suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

Fatih Akin will be in attendance for the English premiere of his Golden Globe-winning drama In the Fade [+see also:

, starring Diane Kruger. He will also be delivering a master class designed to give an insight into his illustrious career.

Other notable titles include Fred, a sombre and intimate documentary portrait of notorious gangster Freddie Foreman, which will have its UK premiere at the festival. Written by and starring Josie Long (Skins), who plays a romance-obsessed librarian, Douglas King’s Super November mixes romantic comedy with Orwellian dystopia. Set amid the global news storm of September 2015, the London premiere of the documentary Another News Story [+see also:
