. This is the official feature debut by the fresh-faced director (who is just 18 years old), who previously helmed two "homemade genre movies" (Hostile in 2013 and Therapy in 2016 – the latter took part in festivals such as Fantasia in Montreal, Sitges, Screamfest LA and the BIFFF).

Written by the director, the story revolves around 22-year-old Charlie, who lives on her own. She is a checkout girl and, when time permits, an artist, but she finds it difficult to make ends meet. Then her elder brother is released from prison and her day-to-day life is turned upside down.

Produced by Stéphanie Douet for Sensito Films, Paper Flags has secured an advance on receipts from the CNC and backing from the Alpes-Maritimes department. The 25-day shoot, which will take place in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (more specifically, in Draguignan, Nice, Antibes, Le Cannet and Grasse), will wrap on 27 February. The French distribution will be entrusted to Rezo Films, while the international sales are still under negotiation.
